Toddler Program (18 months to 29 months)Toddler hood is a precious stage where a child explores and discovers is introduced to new people, places and experiences. Activities that are planned by staff are suitable to the age and ability of each child involving the senses and motor skills. As teachers we want to provide an environment where the children feel safe and have an enjoyable and stimulating experience. The children are exposed on a daily basis to a variety of activities that enhance their learning.

Learning experience and materials include:

  • interactive circle (both the child and teacher are involved)
  • recitation of the days of the week
  • daily observation and awareness of the numberson the calendar
  • pictorial representation of the weather
  • theme introduce
  • action songs
  • stories involving puppets and objects

Creative

  • exploring their creativity and imagination through painting, bingo stamps
  • developing pincer grip and eye hand coordination by holding a crayon, chalk, using glue and glue sticks for spreading
  • fine motor skills for the introduction to cutting with scissors
  • large muscle development through building with blocks,
  • role playing in dramatic area using the house, dress up clothes etc

Sensory – exploring the five senses through:

  • Touch – different textures play dough, pompoms, rice, water, sand, fabric etc.
  • Sound – sound bottles, musical instruments, voices
  • Sight – picture matching and identification
  • Smell – smell bottles, food

Music

  • developing listening skills through musical songs and stories
  • expanding their language through learning and recalling action songs
  • learning rhythm and sound by playing musical instruments
  • recording the children’s voices on a tape recorded for identification
  • learning and awareness of sounds in their environment
  • using large muscles development when dancing, hopping, skipping

Cognitive – (language and math)

  • encouraging the children to use their words when they are interacting with their friends
  • expanding their vocabulary from two words to small sentences
  • following simple directions i.e. show me your nose
  • using words to express themselves and their needs i.e. more milk please
  • knowing and speaking the names of their friends

Preschooler and Junior ProgramLearning experience and materials for 2 1/2 years old include:

Circle

  • able to say if the weather outside is hot or cold
  • introducing the theme with interesting teaching facts and props
  • number awareness on the calendar (repeating the numbers with the teacher)
  • identifying who and what by looking at a picture (based on theme)
  • listen to short stories (five minute)

Creative

  • able to grasp a large crayon
  • gluing precut materials onto paper
  • snips with scissors when helped
  • scribbling on a smaller piece of paper
  • scribbling on a smaller piece of paper

Sensory – continue to develop their five senses through:

  • Sound – sound bottles, musical instruments, voices
  • Sight – picture matching and identification
  • Smell – smell bottles, food
  • Touch – pouring a filling activities with water, sand, rice etc /stringing large beads onto a string/ squeezing, pounding, rolling etc of play dough

Music

  • looks at pictures in a book by themselves
  • listen to music cd
  • observes the actions of others and may copy them

  • begins to shows hand dominance
  • holds crayons or markers between two fingers and thumb
  • shows improved control of crayons or markers in one hand unassisted
  • attempts to draw imperfectly shapes
  • uses symbols and objects for play (i.e. tin can becomes a hat)

Sensory – demonstrates a greater acknowledgement of their five senses through:

  • Sound – able to identify and name sounds, musical instruments, voices, animals
  • Sight – picture matching and identification
  • Smell – able to identify and name smell bottles and food
  • Touch – manipulating play dough, large buttons, zippers and peg boards, stringing four or five beads

Music

  • explores rhyme through activities and games (i.e. freeze dance)
  • play musical instruments and can identify them
  • sing parts of the song
  • distinguishing sounds (i.e. loud and soft, fast and slow / as well as objects – bell, telephone)
  • dance in a circle, use body parts for movements
  • demonstrating actions in the song using their bodies

  • vocabulary has improved to 300 – 1000 words
  • enjoys building with blocks (builds with eight or more blocks)

Junior Kindergarten Enrichment ProgramWe provide an environment that expands your child’s all around development. By offering a variety of learning experiences your child will gain knowledge of shapes, colors, numbers, letters as well as the beginning to print and write their name. The children are exposed on a daily basis to a variety of activities that enhance their learning. Based on feedback from our parents, our kindergarten enrichment program is superior to what is offered at our local schools.

Learning experience and materials for 4 years old include:

Circle

  • recites the parts of the book that are repeated
  • names the seasons and how to dress for each
  • listens to longer more detailed stories and can recall what happened
  • knows the days of the week logical sequence (yesterday, today and tomorrow)
  • recites the days of the week, month and current year
  • sharing information about the theme

Creative

  • learning to hold writing objects in one hand unassisted
  • paint and draw with a purpose with explanation
  • takes pride in their art work
  • cuts on the line with scissors
  • draws shapes
  • engages in dramatic and pretend play
  • color within the lines

Sensory – knowledge of their five senses through:

  • Sound – able to identify and name sounds, musical instruments, voices, pitch and rhyme of music, name the sound of an object not in sight
  • Sight – comparing and contrasting (i.e. what’s missing from the table) wider knowledge of identifying objects by sight, sequencing
  • Smell – smell bottles, smells of the environment, different food smells
  • Touch – can button and unbutton large buttons, able to spread evenly, can pour without spilling, forms shapes with clay

Music

  • plays musical instruments with beat
  • recites songs by memory
  • takes part in musical games
  • knows different styles of music and moves according to the style
  • dance with a partner
  • hops on one foot
  • following the beat while dancing

The children are exposed on a daily basis to a variety of enjoyable and learning activities in preparation for Grade 1. Based on feedback from our parents, our kindergarten enrichment program is superior to what is offered at our local schools.

Learning experience and materials for 5 years olds include:

Circle

  • states the days of the week, month and current year (i.e. yesterday, today and tomorrow will be)
  • states the days of the week, month and current year (i.e. yesterday, today and tomorrow will be)
  • listens to longer more detailed stories and can recall what happened ~ can make up their own stories
  • teacher test the knowledge of the children about the theme while providing more facts
  • begins to read common sight words (i.e. house, hat, sun etc)

Creative

  • holds writing tools correctly ( with finer movements)
  • experiments with paints and with a purpose
  • takes pride in their art work
  • gluing with sticks/squeezing a glue bottle

FrenchWe also offer a Freench program for 3.8 years to 6 year olds throughout the year at a minimum cost.

Your child may learn these skills several months before or after the given age and be perfectly normal.
